well, well, well...

not a big change. but it's still something.

i'm embarrassed to say i thought i'd be the red-shirt lady from the Biggest Loser and GAIN a pound. thank god that didn't happen!

we've had lots and lots and lots and lots of snow. and then it snowed some more. i've been housebound several times since friday. got out once sunday for the super bowl and once monday to go to work {would have passed on that one if i had the chance}.

and dude, when i'm home, i have a hard time finding a happy medium. i'm either go, go, go...working around the house, etc. then i get too busy and forget to do my Wii Fit. or i'm a total slug and do my best to merge my ass to the couch. and, well, it's hard to workout when your ass it attached to the couch.

that is my biggest weakness right now...missing my workouts. quite honestly, i'm not intentionally skipping them. i get home, work around the house, talk with the hubby, play with the girls, whatever...and before i know it, it's 9 o'clock. and who wants to to get all sweaty at 9 o'clock? i talked in my last post about how i have to come home and practically do my Wii Fit the INSTANT i walk in the door or it doesn't happen. sadly, that's been the case.

i had a great opportunity today for a fabulous workout, though. too bad i couldn't take advantage of it. on the way home from school, a group of about 6-8 boys PUNK-ASS boys from my neighboring school pelted my car {my NEW CAR} with snow and ice. i was already rushing to meet jaden's school bus, but i whipped the car into reverse and took OFF after them. they scattered, of course. but oh, how i would have loved to have had the time and opportunity to corner them with my car and jump out and beat some ass. THAT would have been a great workout!

on the plus side, i'm still doing fairly well with my food. given the choice, i'd rather have a small snack plate of 2-3 pieces of cheese, some pickles, and some olives over ice cream. {i mean, instead of ice cream...not on top of ice cream.} crazy, i know. but i've also stuck to my guns about allowing myself bits and pieces when i crave them. it's just a matter of...wait for it. what's the word of the day? MODERATION! {i giggle every time i do that because i have flashbacks of peewee's playhouse where everyone yelled when someone said the secret word}

anyway...although i am a bit disappointed in myself, i vow that i'll work on it. i'll get back on track and do better. first thing tomorrow when i get home? workout! saturday? workout! sunday? {...i think you see where i'm going with this}

and finally, i beg of you. TALK to me! leave me some comments...let me know how you're doing or what you think. it really, truly helps motivate me to stay on track.

  1. well i am doing blah. I have come so far and now it just seems to be getting harder and harder to stop snacking. I vow after Vday I will do better. I can not return to my evil ways. I MUST not! Gah food is soo addicting! I hate it! But i love it so lol!

  2. I have to say this blog idea is pretty awesome. What a great way to hold yourself accountable! I've heard food journals keep people pretty motivated...writing about weight loss for everyone to view is pretty damn ballsy. AND I LOVE IT! Best of luck Aja! I know you can make it to your goal! :)

  3. You are doing GREAT!!!!!!

    LOVE LOVE LOVE the fact that you are seeing food in a new light. That is such a hard thing to do, and then maintain. I found that out the hard way :-(

    You need to know that this motivates me. Reading your motivates me. I haven't done much about that feeling, but I know I need to. I hope to soon be seeing progress like you are.

    Keep up the great work! :-)

  4. I would have loved to see the neighborhood kids scatter when u went after them :) keep working. any progress is progress. I am proud of you for the changes u are making. by the way ur posts have encouraged me to get the wii fit. i love the skateboard game and the step aerobics. so your journey is encouraging to people like me who need to make the same changes.

  5. thanks ladies!
    marie - stick with it lady! it's soooo easy to fall back...i'm struggling with that right now. honestly, that's why i need everyone's support.
    mercy - thanks so much for checking this out!!!
    megan - you've been there from the beginning and you don't know how much that means to me!!!!
    jen - thanks so much...and my fave is the advanced step! it's close enough to dancing that it makes it "ok" in my book. :0)

  6. We're all going through a slug bug thing right now with the weather being so icky. Keep the faith, and keep pressing on! Once it warms up, and the sun is shining (and it's not dark at 6 PM!!!), the world will look better and brighter. Hang in can do this thing!

    I once had some kids do something similar to my car a couple of years ago. It's amazing the effect of throwing the car in reverse, getting out, and yelling some serious obscenities that start with the letter "f" and calling them to come chat will do the scare the poo out of lil' punks. ;) Wasn't my most Christian moment, felt kinda nice. heh heh heh

  7. I think you are doing great! Don't beat yourself up. "Tomorrow is another day." When you are playing with the girls and being a mother as well as a teacher u r working out. You increased your cardio when u chased those boys with your car. OOOOOOOOHHHHHH! the adrenaline rush. You probably took a brisk walk in order to get Jaeden and you are lucky that you missed our staff meeting. LOL! It was a good chance for a workout. DUCK AND WEAVE!
    Start over everyday and stop beating yourself up. Take this thing one day @ a time and you will continue 2 b sucessful. :-)

  8. Aja -- found your blog through your facebook page and can I just tell you . . I know EXACTLY how you feel. I was about at your starting weight two years ago. By some miracle, I lost about 70 lbs and was feeling amazing . . it really is true that nothing tastes as good as thin feels . . .BUT . . . through the emotional turmoil of the last year and a half I gained about 40 of it back. PFFFTTTHH. It sucks. But I learned some incredible lessons that I would love to share with you.

    1) You CAN do it. You can do anything you put your mind to. I never in my wildest dreams thought that I would run a half marathon . . but I did. I wasn't first . . but I FINISHED! Which is all that mattered.

    2) You are right . . MODERATION (let's all scream together) is the key. I use the word balance. You are making a life style change which isn't easy unfortunately, so you have give yourself some grace. If you fall off, pick yourself back up and dust yourself off. It's okay.

    3) Don't get caught up in the numbers. I actually didn't weigh myself daily because like you stated earlier, I was all over the place depending on my cycle, what I drank the day before, what kind of workout I did. I judged my weight loss primarily by how my clothes fit. And one of the best ways to motivate yourself is to pick out a victory outfit. Hang it somewhere where you can see it. Have a few of them for different stages of your weight loss. I had this one shirt that I called the fun shirt that I was so excited when I finally fit into it. It was such a great motivator to continue!

    4) As you're discovering, there are tons of tricks as far as food goes. Biggest Loser website and Weight Watchers website have some good ones. So do the Hungry Girl books. Breakfast is definitely important as you are discovering as it kick starts your metabolism. Also beware of what you're drinking as drinks can usually be the culprit of wasted calories. I like the little packets that are only 5 cal or so that can add a little flavor to your water bottles.

    5) KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!! Feel free to brag!! Take stock of even the little victories .. like, I walked right by that piece of cake in the breakroom . . . .take pride in that!!!! That's hard to do when you're beginning your lifestyle change!!

    And you are doing well. Half the battle is recognizing you need to make a change.

    I personally struggle constantly to try to take the weight back off. Especially since I started a new career track based solely on my weight loss experience!! Who wants a Health Educators who's overweight??? Ughh. I need to put my money where my mouth is. So, I'm right there in the trenches with you!!! YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!!! KEEP IT UP!!!

  9. Aja you're doing great (by losing weight even without the workouts) i'm so proud of you for putting your soul out there for everyone to see. I'm trying to lose weight with you (you're motivating me) It's hard to find the time to workout when life trows so many curve balls at us. and yes, the couch often calls my name asking me to hold it down too. I'm hoping the treadmill will start calling my name instead, but so far haven't heard it call. it must be selective hearing. lol. has free food journals and suggestions for portions and serv. sizes. if that's an something your interested in. just a suggestion, it's something i have to use for school and didn't know all that the website had to offer until i started playing with it. Love you and keep up the great work.

  10. Even if its not a big change, getting up off the couch and working around the house burns calories and every little bit counts!!! Why do we do that to ourselves? Every single ounce we gain is a HUGE deal but if we lose a pound we're like, " Its not much I should have done better"? It is alot!!! To lose one lb you have to burn 3,500 more calories than you consume so damnit.... HELL YEAH!!!! You lost a pound!!! Thats one pound closer to your ultimate goal and means you're doing something right, even if its just that you are prefering pickles and cheese over ice cream. Your doing great you're lost weight and thats what matters! Laurie and I have started walking every day to meet her fianc'e at his work and then we all walk back together... its a little over a mile so we do it right before dinner a 5 and its a great way to make sure our bodies use what we eat instead of storing it. Its alot of fun!!! Keep it up we'll try to keep each other motivated!
